Common Core

In 2010 the state of California adopted the Common Core State Standards(CCSS). The CCSS are national standards that 45 states have adopted. These standards define the knowledge and skills students should master within their K-12 education so they will graduate from high school ready for college and careers. These are the first national standards which will guarantee that all students will receive the same high-quality education regardless of where they live. In addition, in 2015 there will be a new national assessment for students in grades 3-8 and grade 11. The new standards and assessments will increase the rigor in classrooms throughout the country. Over the next two years San Marcos Unified will be transitioning to the new standards.
