Welcome

Paloma PTO welcomes all volunteers!

A PTO is different than a PTA in that to be part of the PTA you must pay dues in order to be a member and have your voice heard.  At Paloma we have a PTO which means all parents and staff are automatically considered a part of our organization and has a voice without paying dues.

A strong PTO needs the support of parents, family members, teachers, school staff and the community.  You do not have to serve on the PTO Board or attend PTO board meetings to be eligible to volunteer at events.

Assisting with activities organized by your PTO, school or teacher supports student learning and achievement in schools.  Stepping up as a volunteer also signals to your child how much you value family and education while actively supporting the efforts of teachers and the school to nurture students’ learning, development and growth.  The amount of time and commitment involved depends on your availability.  It can range from one time only assignments to weekly or monthly volunteer activities to help ensure student success. Every little bit helps!

If you are not able to volunteer time, please consider making a monetary Panther Pledge to the Paloma Panthers PTO fund or contributing to multiple fundraising events held throughout the year such as dine outs, dances, Spooktacular/Carnival, Original Works, etc.  You will have the satisfaction of knowing that your support helps fund events, activities, STEM, music and other important educational opportunities throughout the school year.

One common myth is that PTO members get paid.  This is not the case, all members are volunteers.

Here is an example of the events the PTO hosts in a typical school year:

  • Welcome back teacher/staff breakfast, Boohoo/Yahoo Breakfast, Veterans Day breakfast, Grandparents breakfast
  • Teacher Appreciation Week-daily events scheduled-including making door signs for each classroom
  • Spooktacular event/Spring Carnival-making baskets for the silent auction
  • Dances: Back to School, Mother/Son & Father/Daughter Dance
  • Popcorn sales/Providing popcorn for teachers for class recognition
  • Original Artworks, Holiday Boutique, Fundraisers (Gift wrap, Mixed bags, etc.), Book fairs
  • Box Top Drives, Monthly dine outs &
  • Sales of yearbooks and Paloma Spirit Wear
  • Field Day – Last Day of School
  • 5th grade promotion
  • Jog-a-thon
  • DOGS – Dads of Great Students

There is sometimes a misperception that we have all the help we need or those that work are not able to help, but that is not the case.  We typically have the same 5-7 people helping at each event with the exception of our carnivals.  There are times when we do not have enough people to run each station at the event. We welcome all family members as volunteers and any time given is always greatly appreciated.  We love to see fresh faces and hear new ideas.  We look forward to hearing for you!

 Sincerely,

 Macie Robertson
